Wondering how to soar the skies in Terraria? This guide is your solution! We’ll walk you through obtaining and crafting wings, compare them with the Jetpack, and help you decide which is best for your in-game adventures. Let’s take flight!

How To Get Wings In Terraria?

Required Materials

Feathers

Feathers are an essential component in crafting wings in Terraria. They can be obtained by defeating Harpies, which are found at the sky level. The sky level is found at the following heights:

  • Small map: 300+ feet
  • Medium map: 500+ feet
  • Large map: 1000+ feet

It’s recommended to build a long platform at this height to farm Harpies more efficiently.

Souls Of Flight

Souls of Flight are another crucial ingredient for crafting wings. These can be obtained by defeating Wyverns, also found at the sky level. Wyverns have a high HP and can deal significant damage, so it’s important to dodge their attacks. Upon defeat, they drop between 5-10 Souls of Flight in Classic Mode and 10-20 in Expert/Master mode.

Souls Of Light And Souls Of Night

Depending on the type of wings you want to craft, you’ll need either Souls of Light or Souls of Night.

Souls Of Light

For crafting angel wings, you’ll need Souls of Light. These can be obtained by defeating monsters in the Hallow biome after defeating the Wall of Flesh. To increase the chances of obtaining Souls of Light, ensure there are plenty of Pearlstone blocks in the vicinity.

Souls Of Night

For crafting demon wings, you’ll need Souls of Night. These can be obtained by defeating monsters in the Crimson/Corruption biome after defeating the Wall of Flesh. To increase the chances of obtaining Souls of Night, ensure there are plenty of Ebonstone or Crimstone blocks in the vicinity.

Mythril Or Orichalcum Anvil

Finally, to craft the wings, you’ll need either a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil. These can be obtained by upgrading your anvils and pickaxes to Hardmode level gear.

Once you’ve unlocked Hardmode, break open Demon or Crimson altars in either the Underground Corruption or Underground Crimson biomes with the Pwnhammer.

A message will appear on screen when you break these altars. One of them will eventually say “Your world has been blessed with Mythril!” or “Your world has been blessed with Orichalcum!” You can then mine these ores with at least a Cobalt pickaxe or better.

Once you’ve gathered all these materials, you can combine them at the Mythril/Orichalcum anvil to craft your wings.

How To Make Your First Wings In Terraria

Step 1: Unlocking Hardmode

Your journey to crafting your first wings in Terraria begins with defeating the Wall of Flesh boss. This is a crucial step as it unlocks Hardmode, a game mode that introduces new items and enemies, including the materials needed to craft wings.

Step 2: Gathering The Materials

Once Hardmode is unlocked, you can start gathering the necessary materials to craft your first wings. The materials you need are:

  • Feathers: These can be obtained by defeating Harpies, which are found at sky level. The sky level is at different heights depending on the size of your map: 300+ feet for a small map, 500+ feet for a medium map, and 1000+ feet for a large map.
  • Souls of Flight: These are dropped by Wyverns, also found at sky level. Wyverns are more challenging to defeat, with 4000 HP on Classic Mode and 8000 on Expert/Master mode.
  • Souls of Light or Souls of Night: These are obtained by defeating enemies in the Hallow (for Souls of Light) or in the Crimson/Corruption (for Souls of Night) biomes.

Step 3: Crafting Your Wings

With all the materials in hand, you can now craft your wings at a Mythril or Orichalcum anvil. If you don’t have one of these anvils, you can create one by mining Mythril or Orichalcum ores, which appear in your world after you break Demon or Crimson altars with the Pwnhammer.

The crafting process is straightforward. Simply combine 10 Feathers, 20 Souls of Flight, and either 25 Souls of Light (for Angel Wings) or 25 Souls of Night (for Demon Wings) at the anvil.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Flight

With your newly crafted wings, you can now fly around the Terraria world. Wings allow you to fly temporarily by pressing and holding the jump button. This can be particularly useful in boss fights and when exploring new areas.

How To Make Demon Wings In Terraria

Crafting Demon Wings in Terraria is a significant achievement that marks your progression into the later stages of the game. These wings not only provide the ability to fly but also add an aesthetic appeal to your character. Here’s a detailed guide on how to craft Demon Wings.

Materials Required For Demon Wings

To craft Demon Wings, you will need the following materials:

  • 20 Souls of Flight
  • 10 Feathers
  • 25 Souls of Night

Souls Of Flight

Souls of Flight are essential components in crafting any pair of wings. They are dropped by Wyverns, which are large, serpent-like creatures that spawn at high altitudes. Each Wyvern defeated drops between 5-10 Souls of Flight on Classic Mode and 10-20 on Expert/Master mode.

Feathers

Feathers are obtained by defeating Harpies, which are found at the sky level. It’s recommended to farm feathers before defeating the Wall of Flesh, as only Harpies spawn at the sky level during pre-Hardmode.

Souls Of Night

Souls of Night are dropped by most enemies killed in the Underground Corruption or Underground Crimson biomes in Hardmode. Make sure there are plenty of Ebonstone or Crimstone blocks in the vicinity as you need them around to get a chance for souls to appear.

Crafting Process

Once you have gathered all the necessary materials, you can proceed to craft your Demon Wings. Follow these steps:

  1. Access a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil. These are upgraded versions of the basic anvil and are required for crafting most Hardmode items.
  2. Select the Demon Wings from the crafting menu.
  3. Click on the “Craft” button to create your Demon Wings.

Remember, the ability to craft wings, including the Demon Wings, is only unlocked after defeating the Wall of Flesh boss and entering Hardmode. So, if you haven’t done so already, gear up and prepare for a challenging battle!

Best Terraria Wings

In the world of Terraria, soaring through the skies is a crucial part of your journey. The wings you choose can significantly impact your gameplay, affecting everything from your flight height to your speed. Here are some of the best wings you can acquire in Terraria:

Solar Wings

Crafted with 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Solar Fragments, Solar Wings are considered by many as the best wings in Terraria. They offer excellent overall stats, providing a balanced mix of speed and flight height.

Stardust Wings

Stardust Wings are made with 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Stardust Fragments. They offer the highest flight height of 413 feet, making them ideal for players who prioritize altitude over speed.

Vortex Booster

The Vortex Booster is a unique wing set that allows you to fly at great speed, albeit at a lower height. These wings are crafted with 10 Luminite Bars and 14 Vortex Fragments.

Betsy’s Wings

Betsy’s Wings are a reward for defeating Betsy. They offer a speed comparable to the Vortex Booster but boast a higher base height, making them a versatile choice.

Fishron Wings

Fishron Wings are a potential drop from the Duke Fishron boss fight. They offer average stats but excel in challenging terrains like lava, honey, and water, making them a great choice for exploration.

Making A Mythril Or Orichalcum Anvil

Creating a Mythril or Orichalcum anvil is a crucial step in crafting wings in Terraria. These anvils are necessary to craft advanced items in Hardmode, including the coveted wings. Here’s a detailed guide on how to create these anvils.

Mining Mythril Or Orichalcum

The first step in creating a Mythril or Orichalcum anvil is to mine the respective ores. After defeating the Wall of Flesh and entering Hardmode, you can break Demon or Crimson altars using the Pwnhammer. This action will bless your world with Hardmode ores, including Mythril or Orichalcum.

Tools Required

To mine these ores, you’ll need at least a Cobalt pickaxe or better. Cobalt ores can be smelted into bars to create this pickaxe. The ores can appear by breaking Demon/Crimson altars and need the Hellstone pickaxe or better to mine. Hellstone ores are found in the Underworld biome and are mined using the Nightmare Pickaxe.

Nightmare Pickaxes can be made from 12 Demonite bars (their ores can be mined with a gold pickaxe or better and are found near Hell) and six Shadow Scales (dropped by the Eater of Worlds boss).

Mining Locations

You can mine Mythril in the ceiling of the Underworld biome (the one that looks like hell) or mine Orichalcum in the Ocean biome.

Crafting The Anvil

Once you’ve mined enough Mythril or Orichalcum, you can smelt the ores into bars at a Hellforge. You’ll need 10 bars to craft an anvil.

To craft the anvil, simply go to a standard Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil and select the Mythril or Orichalcum anvil from the crafting menu.

How To Get Soul Of Light

how-to-get-soul-of-light.jpg

The Soul of Light is a Hardmode crafting material that is essential for crafting certain types of wings in Terraria. These souls are dropped by most enemies killed in the Underground Hallow, specifically in the Cavern layer. Here’s a detailed guide on how to obtain Souls of Light.

Killing Monsters In The Hallow Biome

The primary method of obtaining Souls of Light is by defeating enemies in the Underground Hallow biome. The enemies have a 20% to 36% chance of dropping a Soul of Light upon death. This includes enemies that are not native to the biome, such as Granite Elementals.

Farming Souls Of Light

Using Water Candles And Lava

One of the best ways to farm for Souls of Light is to go deep underground in the Underground Hallow where lava spawns frequently.

Place a few Water Candles to increase the spawn rate of enemies. The enemies in the Underground Hallow do not go through blocks (except for Enchanted Swords) and are affected by the lava, dropping Souls of Light upon death.

Using The King Slime

Another easy way to farm Souls of Light is to summon the King Slime using the Slime Crown in the Underground Hallow. All of the Blue Slimes he summons have a chance to drop Souls of Light. This method also works for obtaining Souls of Night.

Please note that enemies spawned by a statue will not drop souls, even if the statue is in the Underground Hallow. Also, Meteor Heads will no longer drop souls, even when killed in the Underground Hallow.

What Is The Easiest Way To Get Wings In Terraria?

easiest-way-to-get-wings-in-terraria.jpg

Leaf Wings

The Leaf Wings are often recommended as the easiest wings to acquire, especially for beginners. These wings can be purchased from the Witch Doctor NPC after defeating the Queen Bee.

The Witch Doctor sells the Leaf Wings for 1 Platinum Coin, making them a cost-effective option for early Hardmode. The Leaf Wings offer a decent flight time and are a great starting point for your aerial adventures in Terraria.

Angel And Demon Wings

Angel and Demon Wings are another set of wings that beginners can craft relatively easily. To craft these wings, you need 20 Souls of Flight, 10 Feathers, and either 25 Souls of Light (for Angel Wings) or 25 Souls of Night (for Demon Wings).

These materials can be obtained by defeating Wyverns (for Souls of Flight), harvesting from Harpies (for Feathers), and defeating creatures in the Underground Hallow or Underground Corruption/Crimson (for Souls of Light or Night). You will also need a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil to craft these wings.

Fairy Wings

Fairy Wings are another accessible option for beginners. To craft these wings, you need 20 Souls of Flight and 100 Pixie Dust.

Pixie Dust can be obtained by defeating Pixies in the Hallow biome. Like the Angel and Demon Wings, Fairy Wings also require a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil to craft.

How To Get Feathers In Terraria

how-to-get-feathers-interraria.jpg

Feathers are a crucial crafting material in Terraria, especially when it comes to crafting wings. They are dropped by certain enemies and can be used to craft a variety of items, including the first tier of wings such as Angel, Demon, and Sparkly Wings.

Defeating Harpies

The primary method of obtaining feathers is by defeating Harpies. Harpies are flying enemies that spawn at high altitudes, typically around floating islands.

They have a 50% chance of dropping a feather upon defeat. This makes them the most reliable source of feathers in the game.

Turkor The Ungrateful

Turkor the Ungrateful, a boss in Terraria, also drops feathers. However, this boss is only present in the mobile version of the game and is not a reliable source of feathers for players on other platforms.

Crafting Wings

Once you have gathered enough feathers, you can use them to craft wings. For example, crafting Angel Wings requires 10 feathers, 20 Souls of Flight, and 25 Souls of Light. On the other hand, crafting Demon Wings requires 10 feathers, 20 Souls of Flight, and 25 Souls of Night.

Remember, crafting wings is a significant step in your Terraria progression, as it allows you to fly and glide, making exploration and combat much easier. So, don’t forget to farm those Harpies for feathers!

Note

Feathers are also used in crafting the Featherfall and Gravitation Potions. The Featherfall Potion slows the player’s fall speed, while the Gravitation Potion allows the player to invert gravity.

Is The Jetpack Better Than Wings In Terraria?

jetpack-in-terraria.jpg

In the world of Terraria, mobility is key, and both the Jetpack and various types of Wings offer unique advantages to players. The choice between the two often depends on your playstyle, the stage of the game, and the specific challenges you’re facing.

Jetpack: High-Tech Mobility

The Jetpack is a Hardmode, post-Golem accessory that allows the player to fly for a duration of around 7 seconds. It can be purchased from the Steampunker NPC for 40 gold coins if the player is in a world with a default Crimson biome.

The Jetpack is unique in that it allows for more controlled flight compared to wings, with the ability to hover at fixed heights. However, it doesn’t grant immunity to fall damage, so caution is needed when using it.

Pros And Cons Of The Jetpack

The Jetpack’s main advantage is its precise control, making it ideal for navigating complex structures or during construction projects.

However, its flight time is significantly less than most wings, and the lack of fall damage immunity can be a significant drawback in certain situations.

Wings: Diverse And Stylish Flight

Wings, on the other hand, are a type of Hardmode accessory that allow players to fly temporarily by pressing and holding the jump button.

There are several types of wings, each with different flight times and speeds. Some wings also have special abilities, such as the ability to hover or accelerate upwards quickly.

Pros And Cons Of Wings

Wings generally offer longer flight times compared to the Jetpack and also provide immunity to fall damage.

The variety of wings available means players can choose a pair that suits their needs and aesthetic preferences. However, wings might require more difficult to obtain resources to craft, and their flight mechanics can be less precise than the Jetpack’s.

Jetpack Vs Wings: The Verdict

In conclusion, whether the Jetpack is better than Wings in Terraria largely depends on the player’s needs and the specific situation. The Jetpack offers precise control and is easier to obtain, making it a good choice for construction or exploration in complex environments.

Wings, however, offer longer flight times, immunity to fall damage, and a wide variety of options to suit different playstyles and aesthetic preferences. For general exploration and combat, wings are often the preferred choice due to their longer flight times and fall damage immunity.
